Hello Friends! Happy almost Fall! Its going to be a beautiful weekend to get out and enjoy Idaho! Here are some great activities to enjoy...
1. Friday from 6 to 8 its the 7th Annual Salsa Festival at the North End Organic Nursery. It starts at 6 and the cost is only $1. This is a great opportunity to sample locally made salsas from your favorite Idaho restaurants and professional salsa makers. You can even enter your own salsa into the amateur competition and win great prizes. There will be live music, a bounce house, and lots of activities. Its an all ages event, so bring the whole family. Sounds like a tasty time.
2. Saturday from 9 to 1230 the Meridian Arts Commission is having their annual Art Week Chalk Art Competition. Entrants will be challenged to complete a chalk drawing on a 3 by 3 feet piece of sidewalk near Generations Plaza and City Hall in Downtown Meridian. There are many categories of artists ranging from Professional to youth. You can either bring your own supplies, use supplies provided or just settle in and watch the fun. Sidewalk art is pretty incredible. Ive seen some that look so real you are afraid to step on them. This is a really unique and fun event to check out.
3. Saturday is also International Vulture Awareness Day at the World Center for Birds of Prey. Celebrate the age old partnership between vultures and humans and be part of a global festival happening all over the world. You can meet Lucy, the Turkey Vulture, enjoy a scavenger hunt, watch short films and meet other amazing raptors. To top it off...or rather, not top it off...its a bald is beautiful day. Guests who are bald, balding or wearing a bald cap get in for FREE. The fun starts at 10 and goes all day.
4. Now, for one of my favorite festivals of the year. Saturday its the 4th Annual Bacon and Beer Festival. From 1 to 5 at Expo Idaho enjoy 25 local and regional craft breweries, a best bacon dish competition, a MASSIVE cornhold tournament with incredible prizes...including BEER FOR A YEAR...a live DJ and tons of fun yard games. This is a 21 and older event and Admission is $35 and that gets you a commemorative bacon and beer festival glass, 15 drink tokens, and unlimited access to bacon. I can't imagine a better way to spend a saturday afternoon!
*** BucketList Adventure this Week ***
As summer comes to a close and before winter activites take over, I would like to suggest a trip up to Bogus Basin to check a ride on Idaho's only mountain coaster off your list. This is fun! Bogus Basin has the only one in the state. Its 4 thousand feet of high speed fun through the woods. You can ride with someone or ride alone. You sit in a mountain coaster cart as they pull you to the top of the track and release you on a ride through the trees. You are in control of your own speed, so you can ride is easy or let your inner child out and release the rides full potential. It is open to children and adults. Single riders are $15 or you can ride tandem for $25.
While you are up there be sure to take your mountain bike. There are 23 beautiful bike trails up there to enjoy and if you don't have your own bike, you can rent one. The kids can also summer tube up there down two 300 ft lanes and they even have trampoline bungee jumping and a climbing wall. If you are more into taking it easy, you can take a scenic chairlift ride up the mountain.
Definitely check it out and I strongly suggest you jump on the Glade Runner and mark that off your bucketlist. It is really a fantastic time!
Have a great week Friends....and be sure to pick up your tickets to the HOMEGROWN COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVAL coming up September 28th in Kuna!
