Hello fellow adventures! I hope everyone has been enjoying the warmer weather and getting their adventure on! I know I have. I say, lets keep the adventures rolling with an exciting weekend here in the valley. We have everything from cars to pirates to music and even a parade! There is something for everyone!
1. First, we have the Boise Cars and Coffee event at the Village in Meridian. This is an international exotic car show on Saturday starting at 10. Boise Cars and Coffee is a Non-Profit organization whose sole purpose is to rally the community around charitable organizations. This event is a fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House of Idaho. Coffee is being served by Village Coffee. Bring the whole family down to check out some cool rides and support an amazing organization.
2. Also this weekend, we have Kuna Days happening in Idaho’s Hometown of Kuna. Things kick off tonight with pony rides, a petting zoo and reptile exhibit in the park followed a showing of Back to the Future that starts at 9:30. Then Saturday the boy scout pancake breakfast begins the day at 8 with a 5K fun run to follow at 8 am and a parade at 10. The park will be full of vendors and fun activities for all ages including a car show, kids carnival, the annual youth mud obstacle course and a hot dog eating contest. The day will end at full speed with a concert behind City Hall featuring Jensen Buck with Fire Dancers and a fireworks finale. A lot of fun packed into the City of Kuna!
3. To keep adventuring this weekend, Sunday is the time to don your eye patches and foam swords and float the Boise River Pirate style! Head to Barber Park at 3 and join in the Boise River Pirate Adventure. A fun adventure for the whole family! Cool off while floating the river and getting your inner pirate on!
***BucketList Adventure this Week***
For this week’s BucketList Adventure I would like to introduce the most haunted campground in Idaho. Yes...I did say haunted. Farragut State Park is one of Northern Idaho’s best and most diverse recreation and vacation areas. Located approximately 6 hours from Boise, this well-maintained campground and park is tucked away in the heavily forested northern corner of Lake Pend Oreille. Farragut has a haunted reputation due to its spookiness come nightfall and its unique history.
Between 1942 and 1946, along with over 293,000 young sailors who were trained and housed here, it was also a fortress-like German POW site. Now, nobody is quite certain who...or what...is haunting the park and its campsites. It could be the restless souls of former sailors...or maybe vindictive prisoners...or it could be something else. I’ll leave that to the campers imagination. The only thing for certain is that Farragut’s unique history is definitely a factor and that nightfall is no time to go exploring the woods...unless you are that brave soul looking for adventure and something strange to tell stories about.
Now this is a very well maintained park that is close to modern conveniences. There is beach and water access, plenty of scenic views, a museum, trails scattered throughout, cabins for rent and plenty of campsites. It is also close to Silverwood Theme Park, if you want to check another bucketlist item off your list.
I have never been to Farragut, but I am headed up there this Sunday to check out the spookiness for myself. I can’t promise I’ll venture out of my tent at night, but I will definitely be enjoying the lake, doing some hiking and visiting the museum. I’ll let all of you know if I encounter any spooky visitors!
Have a great week everyone!
