59. Milkshake from Moon's Cafe (Yummy!!)
This was a bucket list item I couldn't wait to do. Moon's makes a heck of a good milkshake! So, last Thursday (despite the rainy day) I threw on my rainhat and boots and headed into Boise. There were so many flavors...I had a hard time choosing! I finally settled on peach and it was well worth the drive. They not only have great shakes but their waitstaff is super friendly. This is a Bucket List item you can do any day and one you will want to do over and over again.
Location: 712 W. Idaho Street in Boise. It is right off Idaho between 8th street and Capitol. It is best to park in the parking garage across the street. Your first hour of parking is free so it's worth not having to drive around and around looking for a place to park.
History: In 1955 Moon's Cafe started as a gun and tackle shop here in Boise. However, owner Martha Moon wanted a place to sit and visit with customers so she bought three cash registers and put up a counter in the back of the store serving milkshakes. The rest is history. I remember back in 1996, my first real job downtown (I'm dating myself again....), my boss took me over to Moon's. It was still a store but there was a few tables set up for lunch and not only was the milkshake memorable, but the food was fantastic also. Moon's is now all restaurant, but there is memorabilia covering the walls that you simply must take time to explore.
Special Notes: Definitely Kid Friendly!!
They serve breakfast and lunch. Hours Monday to Saturday 6:30 am to 5 pm and Sunday 7 am to 3 pm. Everything on the menu is priced under $12 so it is very affordable for all budgets.
